Cai

Cai is a macOS application that lets users run AI-powered actions on selected text or images by pressing Option+C, without leaving the current application. It uses local-first AI processing with a built-in Ministral 3B model, so most actions run without cloud costs, while optional cloud provider APIs remain available for more capable models. Cai supports multi-step action chains that pipe a selection through AI, scripts, and destinations, agent-authored actions via MCP integration with tools like Claude Code and Cursor, and an approval workflow that requires user confirmation before agent-proposed actions run. It includes built-in connectors for GitHub and Linear, a clipboard history holding up to 100 items, image-to-text OCR, and works across applications including VS Code, Terminal, Slack, and Notion. Cai is free and open source under the MIT license, with no subscription, no account requirement, and no per-run cost for the built-in local model; it is currently at version 1.6.0 with an active GitHub repository.
