Fathom

Fathom is an AI meeting assistant that joins video calls to record, transcribe, and summarize conversations automatically, so participants don't have to take manual notes. It works across the major video conferencing platforms — Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams — either by joining as a bot participant or, in a newer bot-free mode available in beta on Mac, by capturing audio locally from the desktop app without a visible participant joining the call. After a call ends, Fathom produces a structured summary, a full transcript, and a list of action items within moments, and lets users ask questions across their entire meeting history to pull up specific commitments or decisions from past calls with cited sources. It integrates with common workflow tools including Slack, Notion, Asana, Zapier, and CRMs like Salesforce and HubSpot, automatically logging call notes and next steps where sales and customer-facing teams already work. A newer AI Scorecards feature, available on paid team plans, evaluates calls against custom criteria such as talk-time ratio or whether specific talking points were covered. Fathom is aimed at anyone who spends significant time in meetings — individual contributors who want to stay present in conversations instead of typing notes, and sales, customer success, and recruiting teams that need searchable records and CRM logging across many calls. The company reports over 300,000 companies using the product. Honest limitations: like other AI notetakers, Fathom's summaries and transcripts can misattribute speakers or slightly misrepresent nuance in fast, overlapping, or heavily accented conversations, and recording meetings raises consent and privacy considerations in some jurisdictions that teams need to handle explicitly. Bot-based capture (still the default outside the Mac beta) also means an extra participant visibly joins each call, which not everyone is comfortable with. Fathom's free plan is notably generous — unlimited recordings, summaries, and storage — with paid plans adding CRM sync, scorecards, and team administration features rather than gating core notetaking functionality.
