PgDog

PgDog, backed by a $5.5M seed round, is a PostgreSQL proxy enabling horizontal scaling through three integrated capabilities: connection pooling, load balancing across replicas, and distributed sharding — used in production at Coinbase, Ramp, and Modal. Its connection pooler shares a small number of Postgres connections among tens of thousands of clients while preserving session state and prepared statements; the load balancer distributes read queries to replicas, detects replication lag and failures, and automatically routes writes to new primaries without manual reconfiguration; and the distributed-database layer shards data by configurable keys while supporting cross-shard ACID transactions and automatic DDL migration. The company reports 3 million+ queries per second in production. Open-source access is free; enterprise offerings exist but pricing isn't disclosed. Good fit for a team running PostgreSQL at a scale where connection limits or read-replica load balancing have become a real bottleneck, and wants that solved without switching databases.
