Voicemod

Voicemod is a real-time voice changer and soundboard for Windows and Mac, widely used by gamers, streamers, and content creators. It works as a virtual microphone that sits between your actual mic and any app that uses audio — Discord, Zoom, OBS, game voice chat, and most other software — applying a chosen voice effect or filter to your speech as you talk, with no need for the receiving app to support Voicemod directly. The app ships with 200-plus preset voices, ranging from simple pitch-shifted effects to more elaborate AI-driven character voices, alongside an AI speech-to-speech voice-conversion mode introduced in 2022 that aims to preserve natural pacing, accent, and emotion while transforming the underlying voice. Voicelab lets users build fully custom voices by layering effects such as reverb, delay, and pitch/bass/treble adjustments. The companion soundboard feature stores an unlimited number of sound clips and memes, triggerable via keyboard shortcuts, a controller, or a separate VM Soundboard mobile app, and a hardware device called Voicemod Key extends voice changing to consoles, mobile, and tablets where software installation isn't possible. Voicemod is aimed at gamers and streamers who want to entertain their audience or protect their privacy while speaking, as well as anyone doing voiceover or prank content who wants quick, real-time character voices without post-production editing. It also integrates with hardware like Corsair iCUE for lighting effects synced to voice activity. Honest limitations: real-time AI voice conversion has a processing cost, so on lower-powered machines it can introduce latency or occasional audio artifacts, and the most natural-sounding AI voices are generally less convincing than pre-recorded, non-real-time voice cloning. Because Voicemod works at the system audio level, it can occasionally conflict with other virtual-audio software or require reconfiguration when microphone or app settings change. Free use is available with a limited voice selection; the fuller voice library, custom Voicelab creation, and some integrations require a paid upgrade.
