Dexter

Dexter is an open-source autonomous agent for deep financial research, built to take a complex financial question and turn it into a structured, step-by-step research plan rather than a single-shot answer. It decomposes queries into research tasks, selects and runs the tools needed to gather real-time market data (including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements), checks its own work, and iterates until it reaches a data-backed answer — with built-in loop detection and step limits to prevent runaway execution. It runs on the Bun runtime and requires an OpenAI API key and a Financial Datasets API key (an Exa key is optional, for web search), and can also be used through WhatsApp. The project carries an explicit disclaimer that it's for educational and informational purposes only, not financial or investment advice, and that outputs may be incorrect or incomplete.
