GPT Builder

GPT Builder is OpenAI's built-in tool for creating custom versions of ChatGPT, known as GPTs, without writing code. Accessible at chatgpt.com/gpts/editor to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise subscribers, it combines a conversational "Create" tab — where you describe what you want in plain language and the builder proposes a name, profile image, and instructions — with a "Configure" tab for directly editing the GPT's name, description, instructions, conversation starters, and capabilities. Each GPT can be given custom instructions that define its behavior and tone, uploaded reference files for knowledge it can search and cite, and optional capabilities such as web browsing, image generation, code execution through the Code Interpreter, and connections to external APIs through custom Actions. Finished GPTs can be kept private, shared via link, or published to the GPT Store for other ChatGPT users to discover and use. GPT Builder is aimed at anyone who wants a repeatable, purpose-built assistant — for tasks like customer support, document analysis, coding help, or brainstorming — without building a separate application. Free-tier ChatGPT users can use existing GPTs from the GPT Store but cannot create or edit their own; building GPTs requires a paid ChatGPT plan.
