Nagish

Nagish (recently rebranded to Rylo) is a free, FCC-certified call captioning app that adds real-time captions to phone calls for people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or have speech disabilities. Using automatic speech recognition, it transcribes what the other person says on a call and displays it as live, readable text, so users can follow along without relying on a hearing aid alone, an interpreter, or a third-party relay operator. Beyond phone calls, the app supports video calls, conference calls, and speakerphone conversations, plus a Live Transcribe mode for captioning in-person conversations (such as medical appointments or classes) and voicemail transcription. Users can reply by typing or speaking, keep their existing phone number, and connect the app to hearing aids and cochlear implants over Bluetooth. It supports auto-detection across 50+ languages and stores transcripts locally for privacy. As a certified Internet Protocol Captioned Telephone Service, its caption costs are covered by a federally administered fund, so it's free for eligible users with hearing loss in the US, with no ads or subscription fees involved.
