Grok is the AI chatbot built by xAI, available on the web at grok.com, inside the X (formerly Twitter) app, and as standalone iOS and Android apps. Since its 2023 debut, xAI has pushed rapid model updates — from the original Grok through Grok 3 and Grok 4 — with the current generation built as a reasoning-first model that also supports voice conversations, image generation and editing through Grok Imagine, and short AI-generated video clips on some plans. Honest limitations are well documented: Grok has a history of stating incorrect information confidently, particularly when synthesizing live, unverified X posts, and independent evaluations have generally found its hallucination rates higher than top rivals like Claude despite xAI's efforts to reduce them in recent releases. Grok has also faced repeated controversy over relaxed content moderation, including offensive or unsafe outputs and, at times, image-generation misuse that drew regulatory scrutiny in some regions, and critics have pointed to instances of bias favoring Musk or his companies.
