MemPalace

MemPalace is an open-source, local-first memory system for AI assistants that stores conversation history as verbatim text rather than summarizing or paraphrasing it, then retrieves relevant passages with semantic search. It reports 96.6% recall@5 on the LongMemEval benchmark using a fully local pipeline with zero API calls, and organizes stored content into a structured index — people and projects become "wings," topics become "rooms" — rather than a flat, unstructured log. It's distributed as a free GitHub repository and PyPI package, with a specific setup path for Claude Code users whose session memory would otherwise expire after 30 days without retention hooks configured.
