Claude Code

Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding tool that runs in the terminal, understands a project's codebase, and helps write and modify code through natural-language commands rather than a traditional chat interface bolted onto an editor. It can execute routine development tasks, explain complex code, and handle git workflows, and is used either directly in the terminal, inside an IDE, or by tagging @claude on GitHub to trigger it against a repository. The project supports an extensible plugin system for adding custom commands and agents, and the repository reports over 139,000 GitHub stars and 22,000+ forks. Installation is via a curl/PowerShell install script, Homebrew, or WinGet (the older npm-based install path is deprecated). Anthropic states that Claude Code collects usage data such as code acceptance/rejection and bug-report feedback, with limited retention periods and a stated policy against using that feedback for model training.
