GitHits

GitHits is a code context layer for AI coding agents, providing version-aware access to open-source code, documentation, and package metadata so agents can write more accurate code by inspecting real dependencies instead of guessing at APIs. It was founded by Olli-Pekka Heinisuo (creator of opencv-python), Juha Litola, Nathan Burg, and Jaakko Timonen, emerging from Softlandia Venture Studio. GitHits supports code navigation with search, grep, and file reading across packages; version-specific documentation retrieval; package inspection covering dependencies, vulnerabilities, changelogs, and license info; dependency graph tracking; and prior-art discovery for implementation patterns in public repositories. It covers npm, PyPI, crates.io, Maven, NuGet, and more than eight other package registries. GitHits offers a free tier accessible via a 'Start for Free' option, with additional pricing tiers available.
